How to Fix My Child’s Bad Breath

August 31, 2021 6:56 pm

No matter how cute your child is, there’s nothing cute about bad breath! Consider the following questions to pinpoint how you can help your child have fresher breath.

How Is Their Oral Hygiene?

The easiest way for your child to prevent bad breath and other oral health issues is to establish and maintain a good oral hygiene routine. The most important components of at-home oral care are daily brushing and flossing.

Make sure your child brushes at least twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Each time they brush, they should do so gently for a total of 2 minutes. If they dread brushing their teeth, invest in a kid-friendly electric toothbrush that has a 2-minute timer. They also need to floss once a day.

Do They Clean Their Tongue?

One of the sneakiest culprits of bad breath and other pesky dental trouble is the tongue. Your child can either use a tongue scraper or their own toothbrush to scrape away the junk from the bumps and crevices on the surface of their tongue.

If you or your child notice that their tongue is any color other than a bright pink, let us know!

Are They a Regular at the Dentist?

Good oral health habits include regular visits to the dentist. That means bringing your child to see us here at Prairie Kids Dental every six months for a routine cleaning and exam.

Our team can help your child maintain fresh breath, a clean mouth, strong gums, and healthy teeth! We’ll let you know if we need to see them more often or for any additional treatments.
